What is The Techniques?
The Techniques is based on results of valid and clinically
relevant research and actual everyday use by our Editorial Team,
mainly under the same pressures you have in running a private
practice. Since they utilize applications of research and
clinical experience, which implies certain skills, we make no
guarantees that you will achieve ultimate success by following
these procedures. We do know, however, that when you follow
these guidelines closely, your chances of producing high quality
and predictable results will be greatly enhanced.
This edition
is organized into the following sections:
Treatment Planning
This section takes you through a decision-making process,
which not only includes what type of technique will best serve
your patient, but also which material will accomplish the
restorative goal with the highest chance of success.
Common Tasks
This section eliminates redundancy when the specific
techniques are covered. When you encounter a common task in
the specific techniques, you will see a page number, which
refers the page on which the description of that task begins
in this section.
Restorative Procedures
These are the "bread and butter" services of most
practices, including all direct restorations, veneers, crowns,
and bridges. They are arranged and categorized by the type of
restoration. For example, all the types of veneers are in one
subsection.
Repairs
Services that we hope will never be necessary, but are a
fact of life in every restorative dentist's practice.
Auxiliary Procedures
Included are diagnostic services such as photography as
well as non-restorative procedures such as bleaching.
The first page of each restorative, repair, and auxiliary
procedure includes the following information:
Fees and Treatment Times
These are from a survey of the members of the Editorial
Team who treat private practice patients. They are meant to be
a guide concerning how much time you may want to allow for
each procedure and comparable fees (U.S. only). The average
fee for that procedure is listed first, followed by the range
of fees in parentheses. As you can see, this fee range is
quite different, based on the location, overhead, and needs of
the particular Team Member. Although these fees are listed, we
believe each individual office needs to set its fees according
to its overhead and profit desires.
Insurance Codes
These are from CDT-4, version 2003. A short commentary on
filing insurance as well as general business items follows the
codes.
Each Technique section then proceeds with:
Clinical Photos
A gallery of clinical photos for that specific technique.
The photos are typically arranged by case history, so you can
observe the technique steps as the case progresses
chronologically.
Clinician List
Identifies the clinicians, auxiliary personnel, and
laboratory technicians who rendered the treatment depicted in
the photo gallery.
Step-by-Step
After the photo gallery, you will find an introduction and
general information on the procedure and the step-by-step
technique. In these steps, we will recommend specific
categories of products, where applicable. Please refer to
annual edition of REALITY for this product information.
