Step 1: We identify potential products for evaluation from
manufacturers sending us information to viewing ads in product
tabloids.
Step 2: We send product sample request via email. Once a product is
identified, the manufacturer will receive a request to send one sample
for our perusal. This sample should include all items and accessories
associated with the product.
Step 3: Assuming the product received falls under our purview, we
include it on a list of available products posted on our Web site.
Step 4: Members of the Editorial Team will access the list of available
products and will volunteer to evaluate products of interest to them.
At least 10 Editorial Team members must volunteer to evaluate a
consumable product or small instrument for it to be eligible for a star
designation and other accolades, such as New Product of the Year and
Product of the Year. Larger equipment items require a minimum of five
evaluators. If a product does not receive enough volunteers for a full
evaluation, it may still qualify for inclusion in FirstLook. This
determination is based on the product’s uniqueness and overall
utility.
Step 5: Manufacturers of products selected for a complete evaluation
will be forwarded a list of evaluators for specific products and
directions on what to send. Manufacturers will also receive information
on additional product samples necessary for testing in the REALITY
Research Lab and our clinical facility. Manufacturers of products
selected for FirstLook will receive information on additional product
samples necessary for testing in the REALITY Research Lab and our
clinical facility, but no products will be sent to evaluators.
